Kirsten Downs-Mauldin is a current M.Ed. student in Marriage, Family, and Couple Counseling at Lamar University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. Kirsten has worked in various settings including behavioral clinics, research facilities, social work agencies, and education. Kirsten accepts individuals, couples, and families of varying ages with different degrees of presenting issues. Kirsten gravitates toward an Emotionally Focused Therapy approach and tends to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy practices, but will find the best practices and approach that is effective for the client and their presenting issues. Kirsten believes by creating and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients, she can help them feel more empowered within themselves, learn new and appropriate coping mechanisms, and find ways to change their negative maladaptive thoughts and feelings to more productive and positive ones.
